Laboratory Facilities of the Suzuki Group

Hearst Memorial Mining Building - Room 190

Hearst Memorial Mining Building Room 190 is the home of a wide variety of characterization equipment including a Digital Instruments/Veeco Dimension 3100 Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) with Magnetic Force Microscopy (MFM) capabilities, Lakeshore Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM), Quantum Design Superconducting Quantum Interference Device (SQUID) magnetometer, two Quantum Design Physical Property Measurement Systems (PPMS), wire bonder, the Suzuki computing center, chemical hoods, office space, sample storage, and various other facilities.

The various systems in Room 190 enable the Suzuki Lab to conduct indepth analysis of fundamental properties of various oxide systems that are produced in house in Hearst Memorial Mining Building Room 184. Complete low temperature physical measurements are completed on a daily basis.

Hearst Memorial Mining Building - Room 184

Room 184 offers the Suzuki Lab the ability to produce, in-house, a wide variety of thin-films via pulsed laser deposition (PLD) techniques. The Lambda Physik LPX 305i KrF excimer laser can be directed to two different chambers designed for the production of thin-films. The vacuum chambers enable precise control of deposition parameters and have been upgraded with sputtering attachments for in-situ device production. Additionally, Room 184 holds the Magneto-optic Kerr Effect (MOKE) setup which enables the Suzuki Group to complete additional magnetic and optic characterization of the as-deposited films.
