This is a JEOL 2011 LaB6 TEM primarily used for the MSE 241 Graduate Laboratory but also available for research on an hourly recharge rate ($84/hr). The TEM is equipped with a TVIPS CCD camera and single and double tilt holders.

In order to become a qualified user, you must accomplish the following 4 steps:

  1. 1)Take MSE 204 & 241, or have adequate prior TEM experience.

  2. 2)Pass the TEM “driver’s test” (HMMB 2011 driver license.pdf) under the supervision of a superuser. Contact a superuser from the user list (UCB MSE TEM users.pdf) to make an appointment for the driver’s test.

  3. 3)Establish a IOC (Inter-Ofice-Charge) with Chris Kumai (ckumai@berkeley.edu) to setup a recharge account and gain key card access to the TEM room. At this point email Aminor@berkeley.edu to be added to the user list.

  4. 4)Use the TEM for 2 problem-free weekday sessions, then you will become a qualified user for evening/weekend sessions also.
