Brief Background Oscar Dubon, Jr. is an Associate Professor in the Department of Materials Science & Engineering at U.C. Berkeley and Faculty Scientist at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. He received a B.S. from UCLA (1989) and M.S. (1992) and Ph.D. (1996) from U.C. Berkeley. After postdoctoral positions at U.C. Berkeley and Harvard University, he joined the U.C. Berkeley faculty in 2000. He is recipient of the 2000 Robert Lansing Hardy Award from the Minerals, Metals & Materials Society, a 2004 CAREER Award from the National Science Foundation, and the 2004 Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE). Courses Professor Dubon teaches the following courses at UC Berkeley: MSE 130A: Experimental Materials Science and Engineering Design. (3 units) Course Description: This course provides a culminating experience in experimental materials science. You will undertake laboratory experiments in a variety of areas that elucidate the relationships among structure, processing, properties, and performance. Having successfully completed this course, you will be able to apply materials science principles to problems in materials selection and engineering design. (Fall) (UCB Online Schedule of Classes) MSE 225: Thin-Film Science and Technology. (3 units) Course Description: This graduate course introduces concepts in vacuum science and technology, thin-film nucleation and growth, and microstructural evolution. Physical vapor thin-film processes such as sputtering deposition are reviewed. Thin-film characterization techniques are discussed. The course is cross-listed as Applied Science and Technology (AST) C225. (Spring) (UCB Online Schedule of Classes) Contact Information UCB Department of
