Professor Robert Birgeneau awarded Arnold and Barbara Silverman Distinguished Chair Award

Last week, Bob Birgeneau was awarded the Arnold and Barbara Silverman Distinguished Chair Award here at Cal. This chair is intended to recognize a faculty member who “has achieved great distinction and recognition,” and whose work “should form an integral part of important campus initiatives that build UC Berkeley’s preeminence.”

Professor Devine on Bay Bridge Corrosion Issues

Professor Devine was consulted by the Sacramento Bee in their recent investigation concerning potential corrosion problems facing the new Bay Bridge.  The problem concerns the corrosion of the steel tendons that structurally support the bridge.  The Sacramento Bee investigation was published on May 18.
